A Piece of Peace is a documentary photo project about Ukrainian teenagers who were forced to leave home because of the war. Through conversations and personal belongings, it explores what “home” means when you can no longer return to it and how small objects can hold memory, safety and identity.

In October 2025, A Piece of Peace was published in an issue of the Italian magazine Artein.

People

Each spread contains two parts:

Ukrainian teenager’s personal story of war, how it began for them, and how they left Ukraine;
An object they couldn’t leave behind, something close to their heart, shown with a short description of its meaning.

Belongings

The belongings reveal what words sometimes can’t: comfort, fear, attachment, and the need to keep something familiar close. Many of these objects are toys, which made me think of Ukrainians of my generation as the Teddy Bear Generation.
